Welcome to DAWN and PAE elective. If you would like to learn more about DAWN Clinic, I would recommend you read the game da Dawn page linked above.
As an MS4 in the PAE elective at DAWN, you will be asked to take on the role of teacher at the clinic. Some of the function you will fill include:
- Preparing students prior to entering the room with a discussion of interview techniques and physical exam maneuvers pertinent to their case.
- Discussing the case with students after the encounter.
- Assisting with SOAP notes to ensure accurate and efficient documentation.
- Occasionally seeing patients with junior students to “fast-track” follow-up visits.
Please refer the course syllabus on canvas for specific, overall course requirements.
In addition to the course requirements, we ask that PAE students commit to at least 4 sessions at the DAWN Clinic. Please arrive at 5:30 pm.
During one of these 4 sessions please sign up for a 5 min chalk talk (only one person can sign up for a chalk talk per shift). Please refer to course syllabus for instructions. This short teaching presentation will take place during the huddle, which starts at 5:45 pm.
If you need to cancel, you are responsible for arranging another PAE student to attend the clinic.
If you have two absences, you will not be allowed to volunteer at DAWN.
You will receive on-site training during your first shift.
Use this google sheet to indicate your availability.
Please arrive at 5:30 pm.
Please introduce yourself to the Student Director and Back Manager when you arrive, and if you are a first-time volunteer please ask them for an orientation to the site. You should also ensure you are scheduled with other volunteers who are familiar with DAWN or have completed the onsite training.
Please, only sign-up for a shift you intend to complete. If you need to reschedule or swap, please do so at least 48 hours before clinic and you are responsible for locating another MS4 to attend. If you have two absences, you will not be allowed to volunteer at DAWN.
a Dawn, we are currently going through an EMR transition. MS4s will not be provided EMR access at this time. If this changes, we will let you know.
Members of the teams will have access to Practice Fusion and you can review the chart with the team before and after the visit.
